If the lecturers said read the textbook, please read the textbook. Even if you feel like you want to faint because there are soooooooooooo many things to read & understand. Even if you really confident the questions are from the lecture notes from your so-called 'sharp thinking and observation' because the lecturer never say you have to read the book, just go and read the book. You never know what will happen.
